Thurlow Jacobson's Homework

// Ideation + Reference Gathering //
Here are my 15 gathered references for the ideation homework. The following are my brief builder choices that helped solidify my concept. Environment: Rocky, Regular planes; Weather: Sunny Day, Sandstorms, Acid rain; Era: Sci-fi Gen, Conceptual, Fantasy, Ancient; Size: Giant city. I found myself adding and deleting references multiple times until I solidified my shape language. I wanted to ensure that every image solved a specific problem in the world I'm building for my scenes. For example, I love the image of the banners being draped off of rafters, it inspires me to include colorful banners draped off of panels or other pieces of architecture. But I am not going to implement the rafters into my final scene because their seem to squared and non-organic for the scene I am trying to build. I love the idea of this desert planet being constantly ravaged by sandstorms and acid rain, and specifically how the desert people's culture, architecture, fashion, and way of life are shaped by this hazardous environment. Their buildings must be rounded on top to ensure the wind and sand slide off, and their open areas are covered by these organically shaped panels to protect those from acid rain and scorching heat. The wide brim hats (heavily inspired by a Star Wars: Clone Wars bounty hunter who was working with Bane who I can't remember the name of at the moment) are for shade and to prevent acid rain directly hitting the individual. Some have cloth cowls attached to the brim to prevent the sand from entering their eyes, others may have goggles. The shape language of the panels will be referenced on some citizens' outfits to provide shading and protection from the rain. I love the idea of these citizens having colorful clothing, a stark contrast to the environment that shaped them. Where they would get all these dyes and luxurious colors in such a wasteland? Still unsure, maybe only the most wealthy individuals have colored clothes where the dye is imported from another planet, and the regular individual in the city is a muted earthy palette. I can't wait to progress further in this course and see where this idea goes. Thank you so much, Pablo, for the awesome course - I am absolutely loving it so far. I don't remember the last time I felt so motivated to learn! (And all the learnings have been so fun too!)
