// Creating w/ Cuts Challenge //

The object that immediately came to mind for this challenge was a starship. Inspired by aircraft carriers, I collected images of futuristic/sci-fi space crafts that look as if they could traverse the ocean as well as the three dimensions of space. The following is my resulting reference collection which provided some needed direction.

// Starship V1 //

The following are low-res screenshots of my first ship; I am overall very pleased with how it turned out. I started by deforming a primitive cube into a sharp, elongated silhouette, then I used a combination of cuts, Booleans, and masks to further flesh out the shape. I tried to keep in mind the proper distribution of details while not trying to go too small too quickly. If you zoom in, you will be able to see a human figure I used to help me to keep the sense of scale proportional. I had to troubleshoot a quite a few issues while creating that made my process longer than I expected. But these challenges turned into lessons learned that I further solidified while creating my next ship.

My second starship reminds me far more of an aircraft carrier, fit with an internal compartment that can fit smaller ships. The silhouette is sharp and sleek, but the distribution of detail is not quite right. There are almost too many deep bald-spots on the top where we lose a sense of scale and perspective that is needed in any hard-surface sculpt. I will ensure to keep both these ships saved to further develop with detail with the knowledge I will learn in future lessons.
