  • Basic Materials Homework

Bring in an HDRI and start assigning materials to your design.

Level 1: Follow along with what Daniele created. For extra credit, try changing some of the material choices!

Level 2: Decide on base materials for the shapes, and then experiment with different levels of roughness to push your design further.

Level 3: Do the same as Level 2, but try to come up with 2-3 variations for your materials. This is something real-world clients might ask you to do when they want to see options.

  • Focal Points and Decals Homework

Assign colors and place decals where you feel they are needed for your design.

Level 1: Follow along with Daniele's color choices and general decal placements. For extra credit, try customizing the colors!

Level 2 & 3: Assign color and decals according to the needs of your design. Try to make your choices with intention, considering the functionality of your design.

  • Color Schemes Homework

Collect a set of references for final color schemes you might want to try. Then make a quick render and paint over it in Photoshop to test out options. Finally, apply the color scheme you like best to your model and add imperfections to the textures.

Level 1: Even if you plan to go with Daniele's final color choices, create your own set of three color scheme options. for extra credit, try applying a custom color scheme to your model!

Level 2: Create 5 color options. This simulates the game requiring swappable color palettes for your design.

Level 3: Do the same as Level 2, but also create multiple stages of imperfections. This simulates working on an object that can be destroyed or damaged by the player.

  • Alternative Texturing Method Homework

Create a different version of your design, using the alternative texturing method Daniele demonstrated. Try adding pre-made or custom textures in this new style. Then create and add custom decals.

Level 1: Follow along with how Daniele textured his design. If you created your own color scheme, then follow that path instead.

Level 2: Texture two versions of your model. One would be a color scheme of your choosing, and the other would incorporate Daniele's color scheme onto your design.

Level 3: Create three progressively more damaged versions of the same model. This would include textures that indicate damage, as well as adding damage to decals.

Make sure to save a duplicate of your work when finished with this assignment! You will be picking up with this progress at the end of the next lesson.
