Lesson Overview
Rendering
Lesson 4 of 4 Hard Surface Design
Now it's time to bring everything together. In this lesson, Lars will demonstrate how to make several different kinds of images, utilizing various visual techniques. Then you will learn to finalize your renders with attractive UI and graphical elements, which will look great in any professional setting. After finishing your art, Lars will also show you how to deal with various kinds of client changes, and help you graciously accept feedback about your designs- a critical skill for any working artist!
3D and 2D
Render out your design and begin the paintover process in Photoshop. Add any extra details or textures you think the image needs, correct any lighting flaws, and make whatever other adjustments feel necessary.
Get Fancy
Now that you've finished the paintover of your model, add any necessary post-processing effects to blend that model into an environment. Save a version before adding these effects, and then save another after adding them. Upload both to the Learn Squared homework gallery.
One For Luck
Do a paintover of a second render, using bits and pieces from your first paintover. Being able to show a second angle of your design to clients is very useful in a professional setting. Upload the finished image to the Learn Squared homework gallery.
Everything Everywhere All at Once
Now that you have a blueprint render, work on a final sheet which displays that render along with all your labels on a single page. Take some time to perfect the layout of this sheet, and make good use of space. Upload the finished image to the Learn Squared homework gallery.
Clarity Above All
Render out a more stylized version of your design. Present this in way that shows the various aspects of your prop very clearly and precisely. This kind of render is also very useful in a professional setting.

Lesson 1
Blocking
This first lesson will get you right into the action. After studying what makes a great prop, you will come up with a concept and gather reference for your own design. Lars will first show you the basics of blocking out a simple prop, before guiding you through three separate design blockouts. You'll combine the best elements of these into one hero concept, which you'll refine throughout the rest of the course.

First, Lars will take you through his preferred software and give you various tips and tricks to keep in mind while modeling. Next, you'll import your blockout and begin tracing its shapes to create a more consistent look. After this, Lars will go through his three-stage modeling process, in which he continuously builds detail without overly focusing on any one part. At the end of this lesson, you will have a fully modeled design, ready for texturing.
