Lesson 4 of 5 Painting Everything

This lesson will focus on the experience of characters in your world. You'll create paintings that are likely smaller in scope, but bigger in heart.

Lesson 4 Assignments0 of 4 Assignments Completed
  • Character-Focused Scenes Color Blocking Homework

Block out the colors for your Character-Focused Scenes. This stage will be the biggest departure yet in terms of what to focus on in your paintings. Take your time and have fun exploring this new style of image!

  • Character-Focused Scenes Rough Paintings Homework

Move onto the rough paintings for your Character-Focused Scenes. Faces and costumes will probably play a large role in your images here, so despite keeping things relatively rough, you may want to do a bit more work on those areas in this stage than you did in previous lessons.

  • Character-Focused Scenes Small Details Homework

Add in all the small details for your Character-Focused Scenes and bring them to a finished (or at least mostly finished) state. Lighting, costumes, and faces will once again play a larger role here than they did in other lessons, so take your time with this part of the process.

  • Character-Focused Scenes Final Checks Homework

Do the final checks for your Character-Focused Scenes and bring them to their fully finished state. Kleiner spent a lot of time refining color and mood for his images during this stage, but your own paintings may need something different. Take your time and have fun finishing your third set of paintings for this course!

For extra credit, try creating another painting from scratch—going from sketch all the way through final checks—to test your newfound skills!
